I definitely resonated with this. I had originally wanted to pursue journalism and had started working towards that, but after I came out as trans, I found that having to put my humanity and right to exist up for debate constantly in order to “remain impartial” was destructive and rickety as a form of employment given that trans reporters for legacy media institutions are routinely fired for describing transphobia as such. I struggle with this a lot as I watch media orgs cover us and other topics completely inaccurately due to refusal of evolution. Case and point would be the coverage of abortion being described as affecting “women” with no other language-- transphobic as it implies all women have uteruses and inaccurate as it leaves out all non-binary people and trans men with these organs. It is very apparent that quality of coverage is sacrificed for maintenance of a nonexistent ideal.
